DICKENS - A'LIVE SEANCE II

RiPA are holding another DICKENS - A'LIVE SEANCE in support of a very special event.

Olney's 'A Dickens of a Christmas' has come round again and its because of this that RiPA are holding another Seance in correspondance with this festival.

The location that the Sence will be held a quite a history. One such story involves the Devil and a lost candle!

'A Dickens of a Christmas' is a full day festival where people and traders alike go back to the 1800's in dress and manner.

From 10am til 4pm you can immerse yourself in Victorian Olney. Then if you feel brave enough, when the street celebrations are over, Come join RiPA as we aim to make contact with Dickens himself.

Will Dickens come through for us on 12rd December 2010?

Based in a very historic pub with a huge history. This Seance may provide more than we bargain for.

Before the seance is conducted, you will be presented
with and have the chance to use many tools of Victorian spirituality. Learn a brief history on spiritualism and then have the opportunity to conduct a 'Table Tip' session

Do you feel you are psychic?
We will be conducting some audience participation
tests where you may get to find out just how psychic
you really are!

Then the Seance. Audience members will be selected at random to sit around the table to see if Dickens can hear the call of Stony Stratford, a town he was rather fond of, and see if he will come through for us.

All this and more awaits your presence on Sunday 12th
December 2010!

RiPA are proud to announce that they have been asked to hold an event in honor of Olney's yearly Charles Dickens festival, "A Dickens of a Christmas'.

If you are unfamilier with this event then read on for more information.

Is there a scrooge in your life who just can’t get into the Christmas spirit? Why not tempt them with the simple festive pleasures of Olney’s Dickensian fair.

The annual ‘Dickens of a Christmas’ takes over the town of Olney on Sunday 12th December. Traders dressed in Victorian clothes fill the market and parts of the High Street with stalls offering everything from gifts, holly wreaths and wrapping to delicious mulled wine, hot chocolate and turkey rolls.

Take a ride in a carriage or vintage bus, visit Father Christmas in his grotto, pet the reindeer and meet birds of prey. There are brass bands, street entertainers not to mention fairground rides and three indoor craft fayres. In fact, something for everyone.

At last years event, an estimated seven thousand people enjoyed the entertainment, stalls and festive cheer of Olney's “Dickens of a Christmas" - "Usually held every year on the first Sunday of December but in 2010 its the second Sunday".
There was even some winter sun as people streamed into the town.

The unique feel to the festivities was there, with plenty of Dickensian dresses, caps and top hats in evidence.

The town was chock full of stalls in the Market Place, High Street and Farmers Market. There were also indoor craft fairs at The Bull, Olney Centre and Carlton House Club.

Entertainers, including a Dickensian lady on stilts and the Great Gappo, were out on the streets. Santa's grotto and horse and carriage rides also proved popular.

The Mayor of Olney, Mike Hughes, who led the oganisation of the event said "Once again people showed their support for Dickens, and everything has gone to plan. New visitors told me they were blown away that there's such an amazing event right here in Olney."

Thousands of pounds was raised for various local charities, with the pre-school, the Olney-Newton Link and the Scouts among the many to benefit because of the hard work of volunteers.

'Dickens' also attracted Christmas shoppers to the many independent shops and boutiques, cafes and restaurants in Olney and provided a boost for traders of the regular market and farmers market.
